This Northbridge house is designed by Johannsen + Associates and located near the Spit Bridge to North Sydney. Black and white house design has two pavilions which looks like wings joined to the entry stairwell. A steel, timber and glass staircase intersects the entry foyer which is the hinge of the split level wings. The house’s design uses plenty of eco-friendly techologies like passive heating and cooling, natural ventilation, solar pool heating and rainwater tanks. With a protected central courtyard, shady terraces and a sunny pool loggia, the outdoor spaces open to different parts of the site and garden. The entertaining level is one large fluid space that takes in a panoramic vista over Middle Harbour. Finely detailed joinery elements define and give character to the living, dining and kitchen areas. [Johannsen + Associates]

Balaam house is a private residence on a urban site which is designed in harmony with surroundings and the weather in the region. It is built with using zinc aluminium, concrete, rich timbers and raw battening. Even though this combination of materials isn’t quite usual for other regions it’s very popular in warm countries. Besides capturing river views from different sides, the house also has an awesome private garden which is great play area for children and to relax around a fire pit. Another unique feature of the project is cantilevered pool which provides an eave for the main entrance with its showpiece, glass end. Even though the house hasn’t typical modern design, in this region it looks quite modern. Like many other houses in Australia it also implements “green” and saving technologies like rain water harvesting, solar hot water, passive “heat stack” cross ventilation, solar control glass and so on. Hartree + Associates Architects is well recognized design practice with a creative, dynamic team of architects and interior designers in Perth, Australia. B-Hive is one of their great contemporary works for a family of five. It’s the luxury riverfront home with beautiful Perth’s Swan River views. The project combine indoor and outdoor areas in order to maximize flexibility and comfort of the family. The design solution involved defining zones of the home and wrapping the public spaces with the roof which itself spans a 17m shelter. Concealing glass panels within the stonework, the large riverside veranda and the infinity-edge pool are things that characterize the house and differ it for many other houses near by. Stealth House – Contrasted Contemporary House on a Beautiful Site
This 246 square meter house is a low-lying long, dark object placed in Acton Park, Australia. It’s located as far from trees as possible to maximize sun penetration. House color is highly contrast with surrounded landscape but building’s exterior seeks to disappear like a stealth bomber into the shadows of the adjacent mature pine trees. In order to maximize winter solar intake and cross-ventilation of all rooms the house have linear plan. The stretched form also responds to the open landscape.
The volume of the house is folded in both the horizontal and vertical plans, providing many micro-variations in room shape and glazed openings. It is set on a concrete surface with two parallel walls and this disjuncture of geometries provides a doorstep as well as fragmentary “mini-desks” for study and dining room. Thus the house’s complex and up-to-date geometry is founded on that most quintessential feature of an Australian suburb.
This project is one of the most exciting works by Terroir but are great too.
