Home with Cool Courtyard – Casa en Huentelauquen by Izquerdo Lehmann
This vacation home is built in rural farm in the town of Huentelauquén. It’s facing the sea at the edge of a windswept plateau, located 40 meters above the beach. The living and dining room is open on both sides along its entire length, with a pair of running windows. It captures as beautiful ocean views as views of plants in the courtyard. Placed on 350 square meter area the house has four bedrooms for children and guests besides the master bedroom. Courtyard is the centerpiece of the house with its own nature inside. Low Maintenance Home with Dark Exterior – Somers Courtyard House
Somers Courtyard House is designed by Rowan Opat Architects, as a dark object which perfectly fits the shadows of surrounding bush land, one hour from Melbourne. Even though the house exterior is made of dark timber the interior and the courtyard in contrast have lighter color. Ceilings of the house are made of cedar board while floors and desks of radial sawed timber. The use of materials adds to the sustainable qualities of the residence, which was designed to be highly energy efficient. It functions independently of mains water, gas, sewerage and electricity. Catchment of heat and controlling seasonal direct natural light were refined to optimise the passive solar effectiveness. The house has shape of the square with courtyard inside. The Courtyard House – Working and Raising Kids At One Place
The Courtyard House is the home for two architects who called themselves Studio Junction. It’s situated within the shell of an old warehouse without front and backyards. It’s inspired by an ancient form of architecture and a new form of North American urban thinking. The house is organized around a central courtyard that provides abundant light and a safe play area for the couple’s two kids. All the windows look inwards. The couple’s offices are also integrated into the house to combine working at home and watching the kids. There are a lot of built-in storage around the house, including drawers under the stairs. With its warm and smart interior the house shows us how cool parents cool be when they are designing the house to be the perfect place to bring kids up. [Studio Junction]

When it comes to open plans and great indoor and outdoor connection, houses built around central courtyard are quite common. This house for a couple and two their daughters in Guadalajara, Mexico is one of those houses, which also has other adjacent courtyard and beautiful terrace. There are three levels in it. A basement level includes a garage, services and a game room and stairway which connects the whole house. On the ground floor the kitchen, dinging room and family room are located. All these areas surround the central courtyard. Three bedrooms are located on the third level but they still have great relationship with outdoor areas through the terrace. This beautiful two story house is situated in Silverlake and has great views of the Angelus Crest mountains and the signature of Hollywood sign. The site is very huge – 18300 square feet. The main feature of the house is its garden. It’s full of exotic plants, fruit trees, eucalyptus trees and mature pine trees. Besides that the courtyard features swimming pool/spa area and the fish pond. Inside the house are 4 bedrooms and 4,5 baths. All house’s rooms has quite high ceilings so the interior is airy and with a lot of natural light. Besides usual rooms like living room and bathroom there are also a gym and a music studio rooms. Some rooms have desks allowing to capture beautiful views of a neighbor, garden and spa area.
