This green renovation of 1920s ranch home was done by local architecture company Architecture W. A lot of original materials was used in the reconstruction but the second story was add and numerous interior walls removed to create an open floor plan that draws natural light deeper into the house and maximizes cross-ventilation. The renovated house utilizes a thermal solar heating system that provides hot water and warms the radiant floor, using a set of roof-mounted tubes rather than the more common flat panels. Besides solar system the roof is partly covered with plants and, on the lower portion of the roof, a vegetable garden and small seating area are located. The house is insulated with recycled denim jeans and equipped with heat extractors that capture energy from the showers and faucets. The basement became a 700-square-foot space perfect for a work studio. [Architecture W]

Even though this house is designed in very simple style it doesn’t mean that it’s cheap or something. Inside and outside the house has simple shape and simple furniture but such features as the rooftop garden, open plan and materials used in interior design make it almost luxury one. Even though it is quite small its design and ocean views make living there similar to living on a resort. The first floor is strongly connected to outdoor spaces and housing the kitchen, living room and foyer. Private spaces like bedrooms are located on the upper floors. The roof not only features the garden but also 360-degree views. The color palette is white with light and dark woods in order to continue the beauty of nature into the interior. The house mostly relies on natural light, with ocean-facing side made entirely of glass and small ceiling spotlights. [Original Vision]

Only 6500 square meters of 24000 square meters area aren’t covered by native intact forest which is permanently protected. The topography of the area consist of large natural stones and trees and the house is located in small valley which protects in from winds. Three aims was choose durning the design and construction: the demand for single-story house, the desire to connect the house to surrounding nature, and need to provide privacy to members of the family. High humidity of the site put the house above the ground.
The house frame is a structural grid in wood which consist of 5.5×5.5x3m modules. Some of these modules are empty allowing the trees to cross the structure. The house consist of the owner’s apartment, social area, washing area, guest room, and three isolate modules, with to bedrooms each, for the children. On the top of the highest hill lies the leisure pavilion which has the most generous views. There are also 3 another service pavilions with garage, housekeeper’s house and accommodations for the maids. [FGMF]
