House on the Hill Linked to the Landscape – Krater House

House on the Hill Linked to the Landscape – Krater House
The house is situated on the top of a hill on Antiparos, in the Cycladic islands, Greece. There was a lot of challenges in designing it related to its position. First of all there was a need to protect living areas from strong winds of the Aegean Sea and to hide them from the settlement at the foot of the hill. That’s why part of the house was dug into the landscape. In the result, the house is not only protected from wind but only its second store is visible from the village. Stone surfaces defines borders of the Krater house. A 25 meter long lap pool is located at the Krater’s west part which also features amazing sea views. The kitchen’s windows frame views of the pool and its infinity-edge. A courtyard is also protected from winds and is separated from living area only with large glass sliding doors that blur the boundaries between it and the interior space. [Deca architecture]

Modern But Traditional House Design – House Ö
House “Ö” is designed by Erginoglu & Calislar Architects to give its owners a modern life style but keeping the style of the area. It is situated in Bodrum, holiday district in Turkey. Outside it looks like the house designed in traditional side but inside everything corresponds to modern needs. The kitchen is open plan on the ground floor and the bedroom is upstairs. The living room with fireplace is on the mid level connecting private and service areas. Swimming pool separates the neatly building from the garden and raw rocks outside the site. The absence of walls which usually separate living areas and large windows with spectacular surrounding views add the feeling of transparency to the house. [Erginoglu & Calislar Architects]

House with Four Courtyards – The Purchase Residence

House with Four Courtyards – The Purchase Residence
This house is located in Westchester Country, New York, a forested landscape that has been highly developed with small cities, suburbs, highways and roads. The Purchase Residence is designed with four courtyards, which capture as many views as possible while not being overwhelmed by the noise of a near interstate highway. The four-courtyard scheme separated the house to five areas: formal living, diving, kitchen pavilion that looks out on the landscape from every side; a bedroom wing; a study wing; an office wing; a guest wing. The house’s exterior walls were laid with roughened stone faces and then polished smooth when they turned inward to become formal part of the residence. [Cutler Anderson Architects]
