Marcio Kogan is Brazil’s designer who create beautiful modern house designs in minimalist and natural style. This house in Laranjeiras, neighborhood located in the Southern Zone of Rio de Janeiro, is one of his latest works which combines both styles in one beach house. Ultra wide openings and imperceptibly transition between indoors and outdoors what make this very comfortable. Minimalism softened through wood surfaces and stone walls make the house design’s modern but not cold. 6 bedrooms with balconies are located on second floor creating great places for rest and catch sunrise views. Beach House That Consumes Less Energy Than It Provides
Cannon Beach Residence is designed by Nathan Good Architect with sustainability in mind. It is located on the Oregon beach and provides more energy that it consumes. That is possible because of 5kWh rooftop photovoltaic system and 12-inch-thick concrete walls. There are also solar-thermal tubes that provide hot water and a ground-source heat pump that warms and cools the air. The house is L-shaped and wrapped around Sitka spruce that’s 38 inches in diameter. Recycled materials were used during construction and the house is designed to last multiply generations. It perfectly blends into the forested hillside thanks to its sedum-sprouting green roof. One side of the house has views of Haystack Rock while the other – views of the beach. This beach house was inspired by well-known Bay Area architect William Wurster, who designed the earlier home that burned down on the site. It’s designed by Turnbull Griffin Haesloop Architects to capture the spirit of the original house while meeting seismic codes and federal requirements for homes in high-risk coastal zones. The structure sits on wood posts with rod bracing like a fishing pier, permitting floodwaters to run underneath. Major rooms are surrounded by decks and outdoor living spaces that take full advantage of the views to both the Pacific Ocean and the Marin Hills. The flanking wings for sitting room and dining room are enclosed for year-round use and become vivid nature-viewing pavilions overlooking the ocean.
